There are moments when nature and architecture blend so perfectly that it feels almost magical. October in the Upper Engadine is just such a time. We had the pleasure of spending three wonderful days at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina, where we experienced autumn at its most luxurious yet authentic. 🍁

​​A front-row seat with a panoramic view of the Alps

The moment we stepped into our suite, it was clear: this was no ordinary hotel stay. The view from the window was breathtaking. Right before us stretched the panorama of the majestic Alps, framed by the famous, glowing golden larch trees of the Engadin. That light—which makes autumn in the region so special—flooded the room and created an atmosphere of deep comfort.​

​Nature experiences right outside the hotel door​​​​​Although you’ll find it hard to tear yourself away from the stately atmosphere of the Kronenhof, the natural surroundings of Pontresina beckon with unparalleled destinations for day trips:

• Val Roseg: This mystical valley begins just a stone's throw from the hotel. Whether on foot, by e-bike, or the old-fashioned way in a horse-drawn carriage, the tranquility here is a balm for the soul.

• Lake Staz (Lej da Staz): One of my absolute favorite spots for relaxing walks. When the autumnal forest is reflected in the crystal-clear water, you can see why the Engadin has inspired artists for centuries.

My conclusion: If you want to experience “Indian Summer” in Switzerland at the highest level, the Kronenhof is the place to be. It’s the perfect blend of autumnal natural beauty and grand hotel culture.
