The Swiss Alps are a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. With their majestic peaks, breathtaking panoramas, and
diverse hiking trails, they offer unforgettable experiences in nature. One such experience is the hike to the Falknis, which begins with the small but excellent Älplibahn in Malans. This blog post takes you on a journey across lush alpine meadows, through shady forests, and along rugged mountain slopes to the summit of the Falknis and back again.

Preparation and Travel
It’s a sunny morning when we arrive at the Älplibahn valley station in Malans. After a warm welcome from the operators of the small cable car, our journey up the mountain begins. The ride on the nostalgic cable car is an experience in itself. It winds its way slowly up the mountain, offering the first glimpses of the Rhine Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges.
Please note that you must reserve the Älplibahn in advance.
The hike begins

As soon as we arrive by train, we’re greeted by a small restaurant with a lovely terrace overlooking the Grisons region. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch or just have a drink. Then the hike begins, heading up toward the Fläscherseen.
With every meter we climb, the panorama becomes more impressive. We can see the striking peak of Pizol and the sweeping view over the Prättigau.
The Fläscherseen

After about two hours of climbing, we reach the first of the three Fläscher Lakes. We then continue upward toward Falknis, passing a total of three beautiful, sparkling blue mountain lakes along the way.
The ascent to the summit of Falknis

The trail requires sure-footedness and good physical condition. But the effort is well worth it, because at the summit, which towers at 2,560 meters, a 360-degree panorama unfolds before us that is second to none. We gaze out at the surrounding peaks, valleys, and Lake Constance in the distance. We linger, take a deep breath, and soak in the silence, broken only by the wind.
The Return Journey

After a long rest at the summit, we begin our descent. We take the same route back to the Fläscher Lakes, and from there we follow the trail that leads us gently downhill toward the Älplibahn. The descent gives us a chance to reflect on the hike and take in all the sights. With tired but happy legs, we reach the Älplibahn mountain station. One last look back, and we know: this hike will stay with us for a long time to come.
